Redefining Care: Celebrating Careers in Home Care

10 October 2025

At Hartwig Care, we know that care is one of the most meaningful and impactful professions in society. Yet, despite the dedication and expertise of those working in homecare, many misconceptions still surround the role of carers and the nature of care work. Hartwig Care are focusing on challenging these myths and highlighting the reality of what it means to work in care.

Myth 1: “Carers only help with basic tasks.”

While carers do assist with everyday activities like personal care and household tasks, their role goes far beyond that. Carers provide emotional support, monitor health and wellbeing, assist with medication and often help manage complex conditions. Their work is holistic, person-centred and tailored to each individual’s needs.

Myth 2: “Care work doesn’t require training or expertise.”

Carers are highly skilled professionals. They undergo comprehensive training to ensure they can support people safely and effectively. This includes learning about safeguarding, dementia care, mobility support, mental health awareness and more. Many carers also pursue ongoing professional development to deepen their knowledge and enhance their practice.
